I was eager to welcome you to my website. I'll call it webpage sometimes, but it's the same.
You probably wonder why I took the time and effort to create this space from scratch.
If I'm totally honest, I had already this idea in mind when I finished my translation degree.
Just imagine, a translator with its own online space, where you can show yourself to the world.
It's not only about getting attention as a professional translator, but also about the freedom to write and translate what you want, in accordance with intellectual property rules.
We can debate about other spaces where you can express yourself such as personal or professional social media.
In my opinion, this spaces are not totally free, they depend on algorithms and other mechanisms that give you more or less visibility.
Some weeks ago, I read an article about the freedom you have when you own a website, but I didn't save it.
I didn't think that I would talk about this in my first blog entry.
I imagined this blog as a trilingual space, when it is possible.
My writings will be in the three languages I grew up with: French, English and Spanish.
I'm aware that it's not going to be easy. What can I say? I like challenges.
I will classify all entries by date and subject. My objective is to publish a post once a week.
Well, those who know me are aware that I love to have debates about politics, society and environmental issues, and all the subjects you wouldn't want to talk about during a family dinner.
However, I will not expose personal opinions just because.
I will try to translate articles from researchers that are experts in their fields.
I'll tag them as translations and classify them by subject.
I'll have a literary space as well.
I'm not becoming a writer.
I'll write reviews from the books I have read recently, like a frustrated writer (this is cliché, I know).
The reviews will be in the three languages, even if the book has not been translated in one of them.
Finally, I will write posts about linguistic and cultural subjects like a good translator. I talked about the phrase "pedir cacao" ("ask for cocoa beans"), which I will migrate here to inaugurate this space.
I can write it here without worrying about the post's length.
I'd like to write about written Spanish issues, but also about jargon and other phrases you can find in reggaetón songs, for instance.
By the way, I chose to write it this way because that's how it was written on old CD covers you could find in Nicaragua.
The proper way to write it is "reguetón" according to Fundéu.
I will be using LinkedIn and Mastodon to inform you when new entries are available.
One of my goals is to publish on a given day every week, because we all like a little stability in life.
I'll soon add a comment section, but you might have noticed that the website is still under construction.
